BIOGRAPHY
Roberto Oliván (Spain/Belgium) – dancer, choreographer, pedagogue and director. Considered one of the most interesting European choreographers. A graduate of the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona and P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. From 1997 to 2000 he was a part of Rosas – a dance group of Anna Teresa de Keersmaeker. Since 2002, he has been a resident of Het Net in Brugge, Belgium, where he created his first performance entitled Natural Strange Days (2001). In 2003, Oliván started his own group – Enclave Dance Company. He has also collaborated with Robert Wilson, Trisha Brown, Josse de Pauw, and Tom Jansen. He made choreography for the Korean National University of Arts in Seul, Ensemble Walpurgis, Vertigo Dance Company in Israel and the Iceland Dance Company. In his works, he skillfully combines dance, theatre and contemporary art of circus.
THE WORKSHOPS
Roberto owns a diverse way of approaching the class removed from traditional class structure, his work manages to bind together seemingly opposing influences, using a mix of artistic languages to create primeval, organic physical theatre full of wonderful contradictions. It is rooted firmly in his own origins and experience, and colored by performers with whom he creates and collaborates with.He challenges the body through physical and mental exercise working towards dance phrases. Roberto’s class will encourage you to push your boundaries and challenge you.
